This is a print of an original piece of art. The warm and dreamy palette makes it perfect for bedroom and living decor.
This piece came about from listening to Lorde’s 2025 album “Virgin”, which features a song called “Shapeshifter”, one of my favourites on the album. The lyrics explore addiction and coping mechanisms; to both meaningless casual sex, and, more importantly, casual relationships that did hold meaning to her, but which she must pretend didn’t, in order to survive their ending, and remain unaffected.
The imagery is rich, and one line in particular, “I’ve been the fruit that leaves a stain” stuck out to me.
The woman in the painting, sleeping alone in her bed, is surrounded by rotting fruit, representing her previous lovers. “Unaffected” is therefore antiphrasis - saying one thing, but clearly meaning the exact opposite.
